List My India — building a platform for India's underserved small businesses

Big Platforms Are Built for Big Businesses. We're Building for the Underserved.

Sanjeev Kumar · 14 August 2026

Who Gets Left Out of "Discoverability"

Search for almost any category of business online, and you'll find the same pattern: the results are dominated by companies that already had the resources to be found — a marketing budget, a web developer, someone dedicated to managing their online presence. The businesses that show up are, almost by definition, the ones that least needed help showing up.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of India's small businesses — the ones actually closest to the people who need them — stay invisible. Not because they're doing anything wrong. Because no directory, no platform, no search engine was ever built with them specifically in mind.

The Businesses We Mean

When we say "underserved," we're not being abstract. We mean:

  • The tailor who's been in the same lane for fifteen years, known only to those who already know

  • The home baker whose entire customer base comes from word of mouth in a five-street radius

  • The tuition teacher who has never once shown up in a Google search, despite teaching half the neighbourhood's children

  • The tiffin service, the parlour, the small repair shop — businesses that are completely real, completely compliant, and completely absent online

These aren't edge cases. They're the majority of how India actually does business. And almost none of the existing digital infrastructure was designed with them as the priority.

Why This Gap Persists

It's not that these businesses don't want to be found — it's that the tools to be found were never built for them. Website development, SEO, paid ads, professional photography — all of it assumes a level of resource and technical know-how that most small business owners simply don't have the time or capital to invest in, especially when they're focused on running the business itself.

Big platforms optimize for big advertisers, because that's where the revenue is. That's a rational business decision — but it leaves an enormous population of small business owners with no real path to visibility.

What We're Building Instead

List My India™ exists specifically to close that gap. Simple, affordable listing plans — starting free — designed so that being discoverable doesn't require a marketing budget or technical skill. A WhatsApp-first registration process, because most small business owners are more comfortable there than filling out a web form. A model built around local Growth Partners and Franchise Partners who understand their own neighbourhoods, rather than a centralized team trying to reach every pincode from a head office.

We're still early. But every business we help get listed is one more business that no longer has to depend entirely on foot traffic and word of mouth to be found.

Listed ho kya?

If your business has felt like it was built for everyone except you, that's exactly who we built this for.
